Pompeo, who declined to comment on the CIA's classified assessment, said the United States was working closely with Saudi Arabia on major foreign policy issues, including Afghanistan, and that the kingdom was a vital regional counterweight to Iran.

Saudi Arabia's crown prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud sent at least 11 messages to his closest advisor who was charged with overseeing journalist Jamal Khashoggi's murder, in the hours leading up to the killing, the Wall Street Journal said on Saturday quoting a Central Intelligence Agency assessment.

"Whoever has ordered and implemented this violent crime should be found out at once".

Speaking to reporters in Buenos Aires, Erdogan said that solving the Khashoggi killing would also be in the interest of the Saudi royal family, Reuters reported.

Erdogan has said the killing was ordered by the highest level of Saudi leadership but probably not by King Salman, putting the spotlight instead on the 33-year-old crown prince.

Pompeo reiterated his insistence that there was no "direct evidence" that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (better known as MBS) ordered the killing of Khashoggi, who lived in the United States and wrote for The Washington Post.

Pompeo also said in the interview that the USA will continue to provide military support to the kingdom in the war in Yemen.

"Of course, that might be valid from a legal point of view", Erdogan said.

Erdogan said that he himself did not bring up the case as time ran out in the session.

On Saturday, Trudeau also sat down separately with French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Theresa May.

Meanwhile Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has told CNN that he saw all the intelligence held by the U.S. on the killing and said there was no direct evidence linking Prince Mohammed to the murder. "It remains an important relationship, and we're aiming to keep that relationship with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia".

"We suggest renaming the street address of the Saudi Embassy into Jamal Khashoggi Way to be a daily reminder to Saudi officials" that such killings are "totally unacceptable and as an expression of Washington's unstinting support for freedom of the press", the petition states.

The CIA concluded last month that Prince Mohammed ordered the killing, a connection President Donald Trump has sought to cast doubt on. "There is no direct reporting connecting the crown prince to the order to murder Jamal Khashoggi", Al Jazeera quoted Pompeo as saying.

Mohammed bin Salman and Vladimir Putin were photographed shaking hands before a formal sit-down meeting at the G20 Summit, just a day after the pair were seen greeting each other with a high five.

There was no immediate word from the Saudis, but financial markets have been expecting the deal to be renewed between the kingdom and non-OPEC member Russian Federation as the cartel prepares to meet next week in Vienna.
