US Attorney-General Jeff Sessions fired by Donald Trump

BREAKING Attorney General Jeff Sessions resigns at President Trump’s request Jeff Sessions resigns as attorney general at Trump's request

President Donald Trump has requested the resignation of U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions. He said he had quit the role at the president's request.

He predicted that Special Counsel Robert Mueller will "disappoint" mainstream media personalities, projecting the ex-FBI director will find no collusion between Trump and the Kremlin.

He was further outraged when Sessions' deputy, Rod Rosenstein, appointed special counsel Robert Mueller to take over the investigation after Trump fired FBI Director James Comey. White House Chief of Staff John Kelly asked Sessions for his resignation. The president said Sessions' chief of staff, Matt Whitaker, would replace him for now, with a permanent replacement coming later.

When President Donald Trump came to the Capital City to support Kris Kobach's bid for governor, he joked with the crowd he kind of hoped the Republican nominee didn't win.

On Capitol Hill, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) said "Protecting Mueller and his investigation is paramount". "And that attorney general doesn't fire Bob Mueller, but he just reduces his budget so low that his investigation grinds to nearly a halt".

Now the question becomes whether the man who takes his place, Whitaker, will do anything to hamstring the Mueller investigation, which is set to draw to its close.

"He will serve our Country well", said Trump of Whitaker.

Trump made the announcement via Twitter Wednesday afternoon, less than a day after the USA midterm elections.

Senior Republicans also seemed opposed to the news of Mr Whitaker's appointment and launched public warnings that Mr Mueller must be allowed to continue his investigation. In it, the outgoing attorney general boasts his accomplishments during his time in the position.

Thank you for signing up.

. The piece goes on to cite law enforcement sources who say non-Russia-related leads that "involve Trump associates" are being referred to the special counsel "to encourage subjects of the investigation to cooperate".

Now Whitaker, 49, leads everything at the Justice Department - including the Russian Federation probe.

Mr Sessions was one of Mr Trump's earliest supporters.

Sessions had recused himself from special counsel Robert Mueller's probe into possible coordination between Trump's presidential campaign and Russian Federation. It's also worth noting that Graham himself has been rumored to be a possible replacement for Sessions.
