United States sanctions will not force immediate crisis in Iran

On Sunday, thousands of Iranians chanting "Death to America" rallied, rejecting calls for talks. Thank you, President Trump, for this historic move.

The demonstrations took place on the 39th anniversary of the occupation of the USA embassy in Tehran, which led to four decades of mutual hostility.

President of the US Donald Trump said Iran is struggling already due to his administration's "very tough" policies.

Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Ghasemi also predicted the sanctions will actually work against America's interests.

Mr Rouhani was defiant as the sanctions kicked in, vowing Iran would continue to sell its oil.

The United States reimposes oil and financial sanctions against Iran on Monday, significantly turning up the pressure on Tehran in order to curb its missile and nuclear programs and counter its growing military and political influence in the Middle East.

"They're aimed at a singular goal, denying the world's largest state sponsor of terrorists the capacity to do things like they did this past couple weeks, attempted assassination campaign in the heart of Europe", he said.

Earlier in an interview with the Sean Hannity Show, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo alleged that Iran was the world's largest state sponsor of terror.

"This new United States president ... has disgraced the remnant of America's prestige and that of liberal democracy".

What could the impact be?

The European Union has established a mechanism to permit its multinational companies to maintain presences in Iran, but all signs are that the United States sanctions will be dissuasive.

In May, Trump exited Iran's 2015 nuclear deal with six powers and Washington reimposed first round of sanctions on Iran in August.

The sanctions cover Iran's banking and energy sectors and reinstate penalties for countries and companies in Europe, Asia and elsewhere that do not halt Iranian oil imports.

"America has launched an economic and psychological war as a last resort".

Speaking about whether the European Union can help Iran in solving its problems, the expert stressed that the sanctions increase the risks associated with investing in Iran, which leads to a decrease in the credibility of this country at the global level, and the demand for Iran's goods and services decreases.

On late Friday, Turkey's Energy and Natural Resources Minister Fatih Donmez said they have information that the USA will grant Turkey a waiver to continue importing oil from Iran after sanctions, but they don't have all the details yet.

At a gathering on Saturday, Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, portrayed the sanctions as part of a long tradition of American hostility toward the Islamic Republic, which he said had nevertheless prevailed.

India and China are among them, according to officials, but an announcement is expected on Monday.

The latest tranche aim to significantly cut Iran's oil exports - which have already fallen by around one million barrels a day since May - and cut it off from worldwide finance. "The objective of this secretive communication is to give the impression of Iran's willingness to compromise and thus prevent the further deterioration of the relationship with the U.S. lest the Iran hawks in Washington push for military action".

Hardline students stormed the embassy on November 4 1979 soon after the fall of the US-backed Shah, and 52 Americans were held hostage there for 444 days.

Hardliners hold protests to commemorate the siege every year but on Sunday, protesters also vented their fury about the sanctions.

However, some Iranians have taken to Twitter to vent their frustration with the regime, with the hashtag #Sorry_US_Embassy_Siege attracting more than 19,000 tweets.
