He is expected to be confirmed Saturday in a largely party-line vote. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska voting against cloture, and Democratic Sen. Kavanaugh denies the allegations. However, that changed when Dr. Christine Blasey Ford publicly accused him of sexually assaulting her when they were teenagers.

Asked whether questions raised about Kavanaugh's credibility during the hearings should be disqualifying, Stevens said, "Not necessarily". "I believe that an independent and impartial judiciary is essential to our constitutional republic".
Commentators, Stevens said, have argued that Kavanaugh's blistering testimony during a September 27 hearing on sexual misconduct allegations demonstrated a potential for political bias should he serve on the Supreme Court.
Stevens, who retired in 2010 after 35 years on the bench, stands as one of the longest-serving justices in history.
Initially, many Democrats and Republicans thought Kavanaugh would sail through his confirmation hearings with little to no resistance. "The complaints seek investigations only of the public statements he has made as a nominee to the Supreme Court of the United States". Wrapping up, Stevens says that Senators need to be aware of Kavanaugh's partisan attitudes and that it would be unhealthy to bring on a judge that would "only do a part-time job". "It's not so clear that, you know, I think going forward, that sort of middle position, you know, it's not so clear whether we'll have it".
Kavanaugh opponents held nationwide protests on Thursday, including a demonstration across the street from the ABA's headquarters in Chicago. In his retirement, he has called for the Second Amendment to be repealed. Nine others were arrested on the fourth floor of Dirksen Senate Office Building.
