Bill Cosby in court for sex assault sentencing

"Mr. Cosby has been engaging in this behavior for 30 years", Dudley told Montgomery County Judge Steven O'Neill ahead of Cosby's sentencing.

Cosby's day of reckoning is set for Monday, September 24, when he will be formally sentenced for the crimes he was convicted of committing against former Temple University employee Andrea Constand back in 2004.

Although five woman have testified during this case, more than 60 women have claimed that Cosby assaulted them, ranging from groping to rape, with many claiming that he also drugged them.

Bill Cosby's downfall from "America's Dad" to convicted felon is about to reach its final chapter in a Pennsylvania courtroom, when a judge will begin deciding whether to sentence the 80-year-old comedian to prison for sexual assault.

That Cosby's sentencing coming is as the same week as Ford's testimony before the Senate is certainly a coincidence.

Cosby, once the beloved star of the 1980s television comedy "The Cosby Show", eventually faced accusations from some 60 women stretching back decades, some of which had always been known but previously failed to gain traction.

If Cosby gets even a day more than two years, he'll enter the state prison system, with a first stop at SCI Phoenix, a new $400 million, 3,830-bed prison in suburban Philadelphia where staff would assess his physical, medical and security needs. Andrea Constand was one of the only women Cosby assaulted within the statue of limitations, so her case was used to take him down.

Another Cosby accuser, Chelan Lasha, said he "deserves every year" of his potential 30-year sentence.

During Bill Cosby's sentencing hearing this morning at the Montgomery County Courthouse outside of Philadelphia, Dudley testified about the 81-year-old comedian's mental health. That means Cosby could be sentenced to probation, or to continued house arrest.

Cosby was the first celebrity to go to trial in the #MeToo era and could be the first to go to prison - perhaps for the rest of his days - after being convicted in April. That dynamic is on display in the controversy surrounding U.S. Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, Tuerkheimer said, with Kavanaugh and his allies denying allegations from a woman that he sexually assaulted her in high school. The first trial ended in a mistrial after two jurors held out for non-guilty verdicts.

Cosby refused to cooperate, which he was rightfully allowed to do, so Dudley said she relied on transcripts from both of his criminal trials.
