Emergency responders descended on the structure in Middleton, which houses Esker Software and WTS Paradigm, at around 10:30 a.m. following reports of a shooter there, according to the Wisconsin State Journal. A CBS Madison reporter, tweeting from the scene, says she sees "at least 50 cop cars" and one ambulance leaving the area.

The State Journal reports that the Dane County dispatch center said shots have been fired at Esker Software in Middleton.

Cops in bulletproof vests and Federal Bureau of Investigation agents were seen arriving shortly after a perimeter was established outside the business, which sits in a suburb of the city of Madison. Police set up a perimeter around the building, Madison.com reported.

So far, an "active shooter situation" has been confirmed by the Dane County Sheriff's Department. She provided no additional information.

NewsChannel 7 spoke to an employee at the Sentry Insurance office building located at 1800 Deming Way.

Jeff Greene, who also works at Esker, said police told those gathered in the cafeteria to go a nearby hotel to make a statement about what they saw.

Middleton is about 90 miles west of Milwaukee.
