Google Celebrates Chrome's 10th Birthday With A Multi-Platform Material Design Refresh

Google Chrome Material Design 2 4 updates coming to Google Chrome for its 10th birthday
| 06 September, 2018, 01:59

First up, Chrome has a new look with more rounded shapes, new icons and a new color palette across platforms. We've seen how AI can make other Google products more useful - from email that's spam-free to a digital assistant you can speak to naturally. Interestingly, the iOS app now has the address bar on the bottom of the screen, just like the "Chrome Home" UI that was in development for a year on Android but ultimately cancelled.

Google's Chrome web browser, built on the open-source Chromium, has turned 10 this week, and while its latest release includes a redesign and several new features the company has a bigger vision in mind: Redefining the uniform resource locator (URL). Google's also doubling down on security with an upgraded password manager that'll now automatically generate passwords for you so you don't use the same password for all your accounts. 'And Chrome's search box (the "Omnibox") gives you more information directly as you type, saving you even more time. It will now show answers to your questions directly in the address bar without requiring the user to open a new tab. Plus, Chrome will now tell you when you already have a site open, so you can jump to that tab without making a duplicate tab. In celebration of Google Chrome's tenth year, the game has been refreshed with birthday cakes and balloons, plus the T-Rex has been kitted out with a cute party hat. As well as that, you can now set your favorite sites on the "new tab" page, and set a background image of your choice.

Chrome 69 also provides greater customization for the new tab page. Also, the browser will create complex, unique passwords, so you're not always using an easy to guess string of characters, such as passw0rd123. The new look, especially on the desktop, will make Chrome like a completely different browser. Gone are the trapezoid-shaped tabs - now we have rounded corners giving everything a more sleek look. With this release, Google is using the Material Design framework across the desktop, iOS, and Android versions of Chrome.

The Chrome team has added a little easter egg to help you celebrate a decade of Chrome.

After testing custom wallpapers from Google Photos and custom shortcuts in the Canary version, Google is now rolling out these features to the stable version of Chrome.

Users are also able to create and manage shortcuts to websites directly from the "new tab" page, with the "Add shortcut" feature, said Google.

You can search for weather, specific answers, sports scores and much more.
