German couple jailed for selling son, 9, to paedophiles on dark web German couple convicted of rape after selling young son for sex on dark web

A German mother has been jailed for selling her young son for sex on the internet.

Several men, believed to be pedophile "clients" of the couple, have also been prosecuted in connection with the case.

She received a jail term of 12 and a half years, and the stepfather was sentenced to 12 years for the torment they put her son, aged nine at the time, through. Christian L. was sentenced to 12 years with preventative detention.

News agency dpa reported that the Freiburg state court sentenced the woman on Tuesday to 12½ years in prison and her partner to 12 years.

Taha and Lais, both German nationals, were accused of rape, aggravated sexual assault of children, forced prostitution and distribution of child pornography. It said the mother was aware from the start of the man's pedophile tendencies and previous conviction.

A German court today jailed a Spanish man for 10 years for repeatedly sexually abusing a young boy whose mother and stepfather sold him to paedophiles online.

The couple also sexually abused a three-year-old girl in 2015.

The mother was often near the scene of the abuse by other men "to exert a calming influence on her child", and in the case of one client participated herself, the court said.

The couple distributed videos of the sexual abuse across the dark net, selling it for large sums of money.

Officials took the boy away from his mother in March previous year following vague indications from police that he might be at risk, but a local court sent him back weeks later on condition that she not allow any contact between the child and her partner.

Local authorities have been accused of failing to protect the boy from his abusive parents, after officials removed him from his home, but returned him back weeks later.

The Freiburg court also ordered the two abusers to pay 42 500 euros (49 200 dollars) in damages to the boy and a young girl, another victim in the case.

Police in the town of Baden-Württemberg reported they had arrested a number of suspects in September 2017, reported Deutsche Welle.
