President Trump has admitted for the first time that the goal of his son's meeting with a Russian lawyer before the 2016 elections was to gather information about his opponent, Hillary Clinton.
US President Donald Trump admitted his son, Donald Jr (seen here), met with a Russian lawyer in Trump Tower in 2016. At various times, they defended the meeting by claiming it was exclusively about worldwide adoption, said that they were doing standard opposition research, and even argued that they didn't get anything out of it so how can it be illegal? Well, well, would you look at that: the patented "how dare this Fox moron accuse me of smoking something other than premium cigars" tweet.
Trump's admission through Twitter on Sunday about the objective behind the 2016 Trump Tower meeting was the latest step in the long-evolving story from Trump, Trump Jr. and the President's legal team. While originally Trump, a Republican, said the meeting was about adoptions, on Sunday he said on Twitter that it was about getting information on his election opponent, Democrat Hillary Clinton.

"The question is how will it be illegal?"
One of Trump's current attorneys, Jay Sekulow, agreed Sunday with Trump's tweet during an appearance on ABC's "This Week". At that point, he said, Trump's attorneys would raise what Trump has alleged are Mueller's "conflicts of interest".
