Lewis Hamilton risks being stripped of German GP win

Hamilton stormed from 14th on the grid to win the rain-hit race and regain the leadership of the world championship after title rival Sebastian Vettel crashed out in the treacherous conditions.

F1's proposal to host a grand prix in Miami next year has been postponed, but a 2020 race is still in the running.

On an extraordinary day, Hamilton's victory then hung in the balance for close to 90 minutes after he was hauled in front of the stewards for aborting a late pit-stop, cutting across the grass, and re-joining the track. We've got quite a good group of fans in England. "I didn't give it a second thought".

"All we can do is work on our starts, try and improve, make sure we do a better job understanding the auto, doing a better job, pushing for better aero performance, all these different things".

Speculation has emerged that Hamilton's resurgent fightback pressurised Vettel and had an effect on the German crashing out of his home race, but Lewis admits he doesn't know.

"We had a bit of a battle out there, the first lap after the safety auto", said Bottas, referring to the resumption of racing following Sebastian Vettel's crash. I just was open, said this is how it was.

"The issue was that we seem to have damaged a bit on the vehicle jumping over the kerb and that caused a hydraulic leak, but the auto is just coming back so we need to check whether that was really the case", Wolff told Sky.

Furthermore, archrival Sebastian Vettel was on pole position in a supremely quick Ferrari and gunning to extend his championship lead. A real dream and one I will always remember.

"I think it's disappointing because up until that point everything was sweet, but as I said before, we didn't need the rain". Hamilton finished the race 4.5 seconds ahead of Valtteri Bottas, which meant that the victory of the former was in danger.

"It was a small mistake but big disappointment". And I really feel that the rain's come down and just washed away any negativity.

"I started turning in, then they asked me to box and then I said "Kimi is pitting" and then they said "Stay out" and I was already in the lane", Hamilton told reporters after the race when asked what had happened. "If you lock up for just a moment, you fly off the track".

"Seb was having to push so hard because Lewis Hamilton was flying along and closing his lead down, not helped by being stuck behind his team-mate Raikkonen for a while who was on older tyres", Brundle added.
