Star Trek: Discovery Adds X-Men Movie Alum as Classic Character

First Stills From Star Trek: Discovery Season Two Released First ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ Season 2 Trailer Reveals the Enterprise

It was announced today that Rebecca Romijn will play Number One in the second season of Star Trek: Discovery at Comic-Con International: San Diego.

What's perhaps most striking about the trailer, however, is its tone, which is more upbeat and playful (much of it is set to Lenny Kravitz's "Fly Away") than how the first season was promoted.

Wilson Cruz, the actor who plays Dr. Hugh Culber, revealed that he will return to the show, though he was killed off last season.

There definitely is something of a Star Trek: Into Darkness vibe about Discovery, and Into Darkness was another homage to the original that still found its own way to navigate.

But before it does, CBS will also release four "Short Treks" minisodes, which will be approximately 10-15 minutes long and cover important characters like Tilly, Harry Mudd, Saru, and a mysterious new addition to Discovery. Each short will be an opportunity for deeper storytelling and exploration of key characters and themes which fit into STAR TREK: DISCOVERY and the expanding "Star Trek" universe. Anticipation for Season 2 of Star Trek: Discovery is high, especially after some pretty interesting hints that were left.

Doug Jones, who appears in Discovery as Saru, will receive a backstory episode in the mini-series, explaining how he became the first of his race to join Starfleet. Whereas Season 1 of Discovery was a war season, a heavily-serialized action drama full of twists and intrigue, it looks like Season 2 is getting back to what makes Trek feel like Trek-albeit with the show's distinctive modern flair intact. "They'll also introduce audiences to new characters who may inhabit the larger world of Star Trek." said Kurtzman. But based on the new trailer, it turns out I was not far off the mark! That might all change when season 2 airs in January 2019, though.
