With the new unit, Samsung is doubling its current capacity for mobile phones in Noida from 68 million units a year to 120 million units a year, in a phase-wise expansion that will be completed by 2020.

Samsung, which has been assembling phones in India since 2007, also plans to export India-made handsets. Following this, the South Korean president met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Delhi's Hyderabad House, where the two leaders held bilateral talks. "I have been told that this unit will be the company's largest manufacturing unit". They were on their way to Noida. You have given employment to around 70,000 people directly, out of which around 5,000 are here in Noida. 35,000 new jobs would be generated due to this new factory.

The Korean company recently announced it was investing $760 million in the expansion, making the unit the largest in the world, according to Indian government officials.

Previous year in June, the consumer electronics major had announced that it would invest Rs 4,915 crore to double its manufacturing capacity for smartphones and refrigerators at its Noida plant. It was meant to double the production capacity of both mobile phones and refrigerators.

'It's a move that'll obviously play well for Samsung but it also gives a much-needed shot in the arm to India's mobile manufacturing ecosystem as it will push rivals to consider expanding local production, ' said Navkendar Singh, an associate research director at International Data Corporation.

More than 120 local factories now assemble mobile phones and accessories like chargers, batteries, powerbanks and earphones in India, according to tech research firm Counterpoint.

Samsung India chief executive officer HC Hong said that the Noida factory, the world's largest mobile factory, is a symbol of Samsung's strong commitment to India. We "Make in India", "Make for India" and now, we will "Make for the World". "Being one of the oldest manufacturers in India, the latest step to expand the facility may work to its advantage, say experts".

Samsung hopes the smartphones it makes in India will be sold locally and in other markets around the world.

In order to boost people-to-people relations and travel between the two countries, India extended the visa-on-arrival (VoA) facility for South Korean tourists in April 2014. During the same time-frame, Xiaomi's share increased to 31.1 per cent from 13.1 per cent. At the event, further added that at least 40 crore Indians own smartphones, out of which 32 crore people use broadband.

PM Narendra Modi along with UP CM Yogi Adityanath and President Moon Jae-In. "India has become number 2 in mobile phone manufacturing".

Along with bringing jobs, such localized manufacturing could also go a ways toward helping bring the cost of devices down.
