The same process was used Sunday for at least one of the four boys rescued in the first attempt at getting the 12 boys and their coach out of the underground cave complex.

It could be at least seven days before they can be released from hospital, Mr Jesada told a news conference. "They can have normal food but we are making sure it is easily digestible, not spicy or too strongly flavoured". A British diving team reached the 12 boys and their coach after nine days.

Four were rescued Sunday and another four were rescued on Monday.

Four boys and their 25-year-old soccer coach remain deep in the cave, an ordeal that has lasted more than two weeks after they were trapped inside by floods. "But if the rain god doesn't help, then it could be challenging".

The boys and their coach went exploring in the massive Tham Luang Nang Non cave on June 23 after a soccer practice, and were cut off when a rainstorm flooded the cave.

In a briefing just before noon, local time, mission chief Narongsak Osotanakorn - who has become the global face of the rescue effort - said 19 divers (up from 18 on Sunday and Monday) would participate in the final push to bring the unprecedented operation to its conclusion.

Another two more boys left the cave complex a short time later followed by the fourth boy.

Divers have rescued eight of the boys.

Their only way out is through dark, tight passageways filled with muddy water and strong currents - perilous conditions that claimed the life of a former Thai navy SEAL last week.

Osatanakorn said officials did not want to waste time because of intensifying rain that could halt rescue efforts.

The boys will remain in quarantine because of a fear of infection, and it's understood they have only been able to speak to family members through a window.

"Potentially deadly histoplasmosis - a lung infection also known as "cave disease" and "spelunker's lung" caused by breathing in spores from animal waste - is one of several illnesses that medical experts are anxious the 12 boys and their coach could have contracted while trapped deep in the subterranean system".

So the challenge for the children lies in keeping in keeping calm while remembering the minutiae of a new skill, Foisey said. "From what I've seen in the clip, they did look skinny", he said.

Heavy rains lashed the northern Thai region late Monday and a steady downpour has continued Tuesday.

Another and perhaps more worrying concern was that oxygen levels in the complex were falling close to risky levels.

He attributed the improvement of the extraction mission with lesser time spent to the increased experience with the terrain of the divers, the 100 plus people from different countries who installed the base line and the other support equipment.

Dozens of foreign divers and other experts from around the world were brought in to help the rescue effort, working alongside Thai Navy SEALs.
