Aide dismissive of McCain departs White House - 6/6/2018 1:02:36 AM

Trump aide who joked about ‘dying’ John McCain leaves White House under mysterious circumstances Kelly Sadler leaves White House, official says; unclear if directly related to backlash over McCain comment

US Senator John McCain, 81 and battling brain cancer, reportedly was the target of dismissive remarks by a communications official of the Trump administration.

In May, special assistant Kelly Sadler reportedly took exception to McCain's criticism of President Trump's Central Intelligence Agency nominee, Gina Haspel, by dismissing his opinion and saying "he's dying anyway". McCain, the Republican nominee for president in 2008, has been diagnosed with a form of brain cancer and has been receiving treatment for months at his Arizona ranch.

Reports about the comment sparked a torrent of criticism and a White House public response that focused on those who leaked the comments and resisted apologizing or addressing the content of Sadler's remark. But she remained on staff for about a month.

On Wednesday, Conway would not say why Sadler no longer works at the White House, telling CNN she does not "feel comfortable commenting on personal and personnel at the same time when the individuals involved are not here to speak about it".

Sadler's comments came in the aftermath of McCain urging fellow senators to reject Haspel's nomination because he thought she did not adequately answer for her role in the CIA's torture program after the 9/11 attacks during her confirmation hearing before the Senate Intelligence Committee.

Her father was "all about character and bipartisanship and something greater than yourself", Ms McCain said.

Cindy McCain, in a Twitter post addressed to Sadler, said, "May I remind you my husband has a family, 7 children and 5 grandchildren". "I did not receive that".

After the comment was leaked to the media, the president demanded a crackdown on the "leakers".

She was a special assistant to the president, responsible for putting together talking points for administration allies, the network reported.

The White House has been plotting an exit for Sadler for weeks, sources told CNN. Meghan McCain, the senator's daughter, said that Sadler called her to say she was sorry and promised to apologize publicly as well, but never did. "I like people who weren't captured".
