Omani forecasters said Salalah and the surrounding area would get at least 200 millimeters of rain, over twice the city's annual downfall. The girl died after she was swept against the walls by the wind whereas the other got washed away in a auto.

Yemenis, Indians and Sudanese were among those missing on the Arabian Sea isle and officials feared some may be dead.

It actually received 278.2mm, almost three times its annual rainfall.

Oman's civil defense service on Saturday reported two deaths, adding to an earlier toll of a man and a 12-year-old girl.

Oman's meteorology directorate announced late Saturday that the Cyclone Mekunu has now been downgraded to the category of "deep depression". The governor of Yemen's Socotra said two Indian sailors had died in the storm, AFP reported.

In Salalah, the heavy rain had nearly stopped on Saturday, an AFP photographer said, but many streets were still under water and nearby valleys were flooded.

The Saudi meteorological authority said on Twitter Sunday that winds blew at 60 kilometers (over 35 miles) per hour, kicking up blinding dust storms.

On Socotra, authorities relocated over 230 families to sturdier buildings and other areas, including those more inland and in the island's mountains, Yemeni security officials said.

The unit also worked on digging wells to provide fresh water, providing portable bathrooms and wastewater tanker in the needed areas. They spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to brief reporters.

"It was a scary feeling, as if it was the end of world", he said of the cyclone. Mekunu started to weaken to a tropical storm in Oman and authorities began clearing operations on Saturday after the heavy rain but warned residents to stay in their homes, with run-off from river valleys flooding most main roads in Dhofar.
