Judge sides with parents, boots adult son from New York home

Michael Rotondo eviction Parents in US sue 30-year-old son as he refuses to move out of their house

A 30-year-old man has been ordered by a judge to leave his parents' home in Camillus, New York. His parents even say they've offered to help him get started on his own.

Since Feb. 2, they had given him five written notices telling him to leave.

That order capped a surreal 30-minute court appearance in which Rotondo didn't deny that his parents had given him multiple orders to leave their 408 Weatheridge Drive home.

"I just want a reasonable amount of time to vacate with the consideration of the fact that I was not really prepared to support myself at the time I was served these notices", he said.

Court documents indicate that throughout his eight years living with his parents, Michael contributed nothing to household expenses or chores, because he didn't feel he was expected to.

When Justice Greenwood called Michael up to the bench, the long-haired and bearded son tried to bring the podium with him - noting it held the reporters' microphones.

Rotondo said, however, that he recently lost his visitation rights and that as a result, his parents "have been trying to coerce me away" and had stopped feeding him.

"There are jobs available even for those with a poor work history like you", they write in the letter.

The Rotondos are due in court Tuesday for a hearing at which Michael will have to argue why he shouldn't be forced to leave home, according to court records.

"I was an excellent father", Rotondo told Business Insider, adding that he would take his child fishing and had foregone buying clothes for himself so he could take his child skiing.

The couple live in Camillus in upstate NY. "Get one - you have to work!" they said. But whenever he does move out, he made it clear he does not want to make up with his parents anytime soon.

He also argued that he can not be evicted because he is a relative of the house's owners. "We will take whatever actions are necessary".

"So I'm expecting something like that". He will appeal the judge's decision and said he wasn't given enough time to vacate the property - despite being warned several months ago. But when asked about his business, Rotondo replied: "My business is my business".
