According to local news station ABC 15, a Honda sedan crashed into the Waymo minivan after swerving to avoid hitting another auto.

Waymo is Google's self-driving auto spinoff. In this case a driver was on board and was injured in the accident.

According to local police, a Honda minivan traveling eastbound on Chandler Boulevard swerved to avoid striking a vehicle traveling northbound on Los Feliz Drive.

As a result, the Honda went into opposing traffic lanes and hit the Waymo minivan. This may be Waymo's first accident in its Arizona test program. Supposedly, what followed was that the driver of the eastbound vehicle swerved into the opposite lane to avoid a collision with another auto and consequently hit the Waymo van. It released a video of the moments before the collision. According to reports, people got minor injuries.

An investigation is underway and police said they intend on reviewing the vehicle's on-board cameras to help determine who ran the red light.

Waymo in the auto on the driver's seat was the man who received minor injuries. Arizona changed its rules on autonomous vehicle testing late in 2017, opening the door to driverless cars being operated without a human behind the wheel.

The incident took place in Chandler, Arizona, one of the cities in which Alphabet-owned Waymo is running trials of its autonomous vehicle technology. For now, it seems like the autonomous vehicle was not directly responsible for the crash.

In March, a woman, Elain Herzberg, was fatally hit by an Uber vehicle that was in autonomous mode in Tempe. Both the Waymo self-driving vehicle and the Honda sedan had to be towed from the scene of the accident.
