Sony Might Roll Out the Next Generation PlayStation 5 This Year
12 April, 2018, 00:53
It would be nearly suicidal of Sony to steal the spotlight out of PlayStation 4 right when it's more profitable and some of the best games are just coming out.
Because of this, the report argues that the PS5 could be released in 2018.
This suggests that at the earliest we'd see a PlayStation 5 in 2020, though Sony could always change plans depending on what its competitors do.
The report goes on to say that, in the past, Sony has asked studios to keep these devkits in locked rooms and restrict access to only a small number of people. As reported by GameSpot, game developers have also not yet received any "devkits" for them to start working on titles for the new gaming console. The game is still scheduled to release on Sony's platform, however Yamashita has stated that it will be digital only for PS4 with the Switch getting both physical and digital releases when the games launches September 7. As per some online reports, the Japanese technology giant Sony may announce the next generation Playstation 5this year.
"On a multi-year project, a lot can happen to shift schedules both forward and backward, said one source".
Sources told Kotaku that Sony was looking at "every possible date".
Previous PlayStation 5 rumors have pegged the console's release date to as early as 2019 and as late as 2021, but Sony has so far not revealed any official information regarding the next PlayStation console.
Over the last couple of weeks, some wild rumors have been floating around suggesting that PlayStation 5 dev kits are already in the wild, with the console set to release either this year or next year. "It's all about what they think is the best sweet spot in terms of hardware".
While Microsoft has been on a tear making the Xbox One backwards compatible with older games, the PS4 can't run games from the PS3.
Another big detail that was mentioned in the reports is that the PlayStation 5 will apparently not be able to play any of the current PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 Pro games.
Sony may have an announcement of a hardware or at least a teaser of it by the coming June.
