Gov. Rick Scott aims to unseat Florida's Democratic senator

Scott, in his trademark sky blue shirt and Navy baseball cap, said he'll seek the Republican nomination in hopes of challenging incumbent Democrat Bill Nelson.
The Republican party now holds a 51 to 49 majority in the U.S. Senate. He says Washington is a "disaster" and is calling for congressional term limits.
Republicans have for years controlled the state government, and Donald Trump won Florida in the 2016 presidential election with Scott's support. Scott said he was "fixated on job creation", saying that he "grew up poor".
The campaign according to Charles Zelden, a political scientist at Nova Southeastern University, likely will be one of the most closely watched races in the country and could help determine which party controls the Senate after the November 6 election.
"We're going to make sure Washington works for us", Scott said in a brief appearance on Facebook Live from Orlando. But he was forced to scale back his plans amid opposition from the GOP-controlled Legislature.
"Eight years ago today I announced I was going to run for governor", Scott said.

Scott most notably was chief executive officer at Columbia/HCA, once the largest private for-profit health care company in the U.S. Bill Nelson (D-Fla.), who is now serving his third term.
When asked whether he would ask Trump to campaign for him, Scott told Fox News he has not talked to the president recently about the race. Scott, a Republican who has received high praise from the NRA in the past, said he was signing the legislation because it's a "time for all of us to come together, roll up our sleeves and get it done".
