US, Israel discussed Syria attack ahead of airstrike

Military to present Trump with Syria strike options within hours: sources Syria says suspected US missiles fired at air base; Washington denies strike

Global condemnation grew over a suspected poison gas attack in a rebel-held town near Damascus said to have been carried out by the Syrian government, while Syria and its main ally, Russia, blamed Israel for airstrikes on a Syrian air base that reportedly killed 14 people, including four Iranians. The report on SANA said the attack on the T4 military air base in Homs province "is likely to be an American aggression.' However, a spokesman for the Pentagon, Christopher Sherwood, said the United States was not conducting airstrikes in Syria".

President Trump recently told us military leaders to begin making plans to withdraw troops from Syria, but a senior administration official told NBC that Trump reluctantly agreed to keep troops in Syria for an unspecified amount of time in order to defeat ISIS.

The IDF shot down the drone, and dispatched a battery of planes to attack the Tadmor air base in Syria, where the drone was dispatched from, and several other targets in Syria.

A European diplomat said Western allies would work on building a dossier based on photos, videos, witness testimony and satellite images of Syrian flights and helicopters. "The Israeli aggression on the T4 airport was carried out with F-15 planes that fired several missiles from above Lebanese land", state news agency SANA said.

Fourteen people, including Iranians, were reported killed in the missile attack.

The timing of the airstrikes in central Homs province, hours after President Donald Trump said there would be "a big price to pay" for the chemical weapons attack, raised questions about whether Israel was acting alone or as a proxy for the United States.

Israel has neither confirmed nor denied responsibility for the attack on the Syrian base. In addition, the statement also said that the Department would be keeping a close eye on the situation and that they would offer all the support that was needed in order to detain those who were responsible for the air strike.

The medical relief organization Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS) and the civil defense service, which operates in rebel-held areas, said in a joint statement 49 people had been killed in the suspected gas attack.

As worldwide officials worked to try to confirm Saturday's chemical attack on Douma, a Syria medical relief group said at least 60 people had been killed there and more than 1,000 injured in several sites. Russia, President Bashar al-Assad's most powerful ally, called the reports fake.

The attacks have come almost a week after Trump expressed his desire to bring the US troops back to the country.

When asked about the explosions, an Israeli spokeswoman declined to comment.

The Syrian opposition blamed the suspected chemical attack on Saturday in the town of Douma on government forces. "If it's Russian Federation, if it's Syria, if it's Iran, if it's all of them together, we'll figure it out", Trump said.

Moscow said some 8,000 fighters and 40,000 civilians would be bussed out and said that proved "no chemical weapons were used in this area". Iran, a key ally of Assad, condemned the strikes, which it said killed four Iranians, including a colonel and a member of the Revolutionary Guard's aerospace force.

In April 2017, Trump ordered a strike on another Syrian air base, Shayrat, 70 kilometers (45 miles) west of T4, following similar allegations that Assad had used banned chemicals on civilians.

The UN Security Council is set to meet in an emergency session today to discuss the poison gas attack.
