Suspicious packages have been sent to six government and military sites around the US capital Washington, according to media reports Monday.

In a press release, the FBI's Washington field office reported Tuesday that the packages were received by mail-processing facilities at Fort Belvoir; Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling and Fort Lesley J. McNair, both in Washington, D.C.; the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Dahlgren, Virginia; and the Central Intelligence Agency at Langley, Virginia. "The X-ray conducted indicates suspected Global Positioning System and an expedient fuse were attached".

One of those packages contained a vial of liquid and a circuit board, and was also rendered safe, NBC reports.

An Everett man was taken into custody in connection with suspicious packages discovered at military bases near Washington D.C., CBS News reports.

No injuries are reported so far.

The FBI continues to advise the public to remain vigilant and not touch, move or handle any suspicious or unknown packages.

One of the individual packages tested positive for gun powder and also had a fuse.

In its statement on Tuesday, the FBI said its investigation is ongoing with the U.S. Postal Service.

In addition, an NBC news report indicated that "similar" packages were located at mail processing facilities for both the Central Intelligence Agency and the White House.

CNN reported the Federal Bureau of Investigation now has the packages and is examining them at a lab in Quantico, VA. During screening, the packages were found to be suspicious, although it is unclear what made them suspicious.

The current scare comes in the wake of the Austin package bombings that left two people dead and several injured.

Defense Department spokeswoman Lt. Col. Michelle Baldanza said they are aware of the situation and it is being investigated.

Authorities have not released the identity of the suspect or a motive.
