While Panther may be dethroned this week, moviegoers still have plenty of time to see T'Challa in action for weeks to come, including in the forthcoming Avengers: Infinity War alongside the likes of Iron Man and Thor when the film debuts on April 27th.

Its numbers at the global box office are even bigger.

Black Panther reached $630 million (£445.6 million) in earnings on Saturday, flying past the $623.4 million (£440.9 million) earned by first outing of Tony Stark and pals to become the highest grossing superhero movie ever in the country.

This position is not adjusted for inflation, according to The Hollywood Reporter, which also announced that Black Panther is the sixth highest-grossing movie of any kind domestically.

Black Panther has become the highest grossing superhero ever in the United States of America, with profits in excess of $630 million (£445.6 million), outstripping the original Avengers movie which conquered cinema in 2012. With Legendary/Universal's Pacific Rim Uprising set to take the top spot this weekend, Black Panther will end its five-weekend domination, bringing in about $17 million to Uprising's estimated $23 million opening volley. The total, estimated at more than $624 million, also means Black Panther has motored past Star Wars: The Last Jedi into fifth place all-time on the domestic box office leaderboard. Presale tickets for that film are already selling at a higher rate than any superhero film ever.

Globally, the film has earned north of $1.2 billion to date. The success of the superhero blockbuster has pushed Walt Disney Studios' worldwide box office past $1 billion for 2018. But, until there's actual movement on the sequel, Coogler and co. and continue to revel in Black Panther's astounding critical and commercial success.
