True Story: $10000 Voucher From United Airlines

United CEO accepted responsibility for dog's death on flight Bumped United passenger walks away with $10000 voucher
| 24 March, 2018, 16:39

Allison Preiss live-tweeted her ordeal, with the airline ultimately offering her a $10,000 voucher to give up her seat.

Preiss says she tried to demand cash but the staff were adamant that she take a travel voucher.

United confirmed to USA Today in an email that Preiss was offered the $10,000 voucher.

Unlike the story that made headlines a year ago when a doctor was dragged from a flight after already taking his seat, Preise was removed from the boarding line before she made it onto the plane.

She said United at first offered her a $2,000 voucher and the next available seat on a flight.

"They are kicking me off this flight", she tweeted.

It was a happy ending for Preiss, who cracked wise about other recent publicized tales of United Airlines travel gone awry. Eventually, United offered Preiss a $10,000 travel credit, which she accepted.

Preiss was bumped because no one volunteered to give up their seat and she paid the lowest fare for the full flight, USA Today reported.

She added: "I also got two $10 meal vouchers". And federal officials also investigated United after a 10-month-old French bulldog died earlier this month after the pet was stowed in an overhead bin on a flight from Houston to NY. Instead, they offered her a huge sum of $10,000 worth of travel credit for her troubles.

Some experts doubted that United or Delta, which raised its maximum compensation for bumping passengers to $9,950, would ever pay out the maximum.
