Just before he died, Stephen Hawking predicted the 'end of the universe'

Hertog, a physics professor at KU Leuven University in Belgium, told the Sunday Times that he got final approval to submit the paper during a recent in-person meeting with Hawking.

With deep space probes using the right sensors that measure background radiation accurately, it is possible to find parallel universes, claims Hawking in the study.

The Times reports that if the theory is correct, Hawking and Hertog would likely be candidates for the Nobel Prize, which Hawking has never won. According to the The Sunday Times, this new research, which is now under review by a Scientific publication, provides a way to test it through experiments.

In the "No boundary theory" devised with James Hartle, the duo talked about how the earth came into being during the Big Bang. If this plan had been put into action and evidence had been found, while he was still alive, there's a good chance it would have landed a coveted Nobel Prize.

It also presents the theoretical basis for how a space probe could search the cosmos for evidence of a "multiverse" - a theoretical multitude of universes that exist alongside our own.

But so far, the evidence produced by the relativistic equations shows it unlikely, as far as humanity can now perceive of such infinite universes. The new paper aims to make the multiverse easier to grasp, turning it into "a testable scientific framework". This research paper also predicts the end of our universe and how it would eventually fade into blackness as all its stars run out of energy. Others believe Hawking's work might embody the breakthrough that cosmology needs as it was the first such theory that could be tested in experiments.

Details on the exact release date of the final paper which will be done by Hertog, including which publication will carry it is not known at this time. Many cosmologists dispute this theory, including Professor Neil Turok, the director of Canada's Perimeter Institute.
