Top India stars get massive pay hike

Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni Virat Kohli who has been included in Grade A+ will earn Rs 7 crore. MS Dhoni in Grade A will receive Rs 5 crore

While Kohli and Dhoni were in Grade A in the 2017 BCCI annual contract and were paid Rs 2 crore per annum; Rohit Sharma, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah were in Grade B and got Rs 1 crore.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently announced the new annual contracts for the players.

Grade A +: V Kohli, R Sharma, S Dhawan, B Kumar, J Bumrah. Players belonging to the A+ grade were offered an enormous hike of Rs.7 crore in the contract.

Surprisingly, Mohammed Shami is not a part of the annual contract list released by the board.

The removal of Shami may be a coincidence with the ongoing controversy involving his wife, who accused the Bengal pacer, who was in the B category in the last term, of domestic violence and extra-marital affairs.

The central contracts mark a departure from previous year when Test specialists were mainly kept in the top category.

The women playing XI will get Rs 12,500, while the reserves will receive Rs 6,250 for every domestic game. Since Dhoni does not fulfil the criteria, he has been kept in Grade A while the other five players in A+ category.

This was an idea given by Team India captain Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni, and Committee of Administrators (CoA) chairman Vinod Rai stated the reason behind this. Group C players namely Kedar Jadhav, Manish Pandey, Axar Patel, Karun Nair, Suresh Raina, Parthiv Patel and Jayant Yadav will be paid Rs 1 crore each.

The players that made the cut for that category were Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Cheteshwar Pujara, MS Dhoni, Ajinkya Rahane, Murali Vijay and Wriddhiman Saha.

The CoA, which supervises the operations of the BCCI, said that it had sanctioned the creation of a Players Revenue/ Compensation Equalization Fund (PR/CEF) to insulate player compensation.

Grade B players, including fast bowler Ishant Sharma and all-rounder Hardik Pandya, will earn 30 million Indian rupees each while Grade C players will receive 10 million Indian rupees each.
