Ex-Trump aide Nunberg says will not comply with Russian Federation probe subpoena

Mueller's investigation arose in part from the findings of US intelligence agencies that Russian Federation had meddled in the 2016 USA election and that its goals eventually included aiding Trump who won a surprise victory over Democrat Hillary Clinton.

The U.S. special counsel in the Russian election meddling investigation has learned of two conversations in which President Donald Trump asked witnesses about matters discussed with investigators, the New York Times reported on Wednesday. He later told reporters he would comply with the subpoena. "It is the biggest joke to ever think that Donald Trump colluded with the Russians", said Nunberg, who also spoke to the Washington Post and CNN. He said he "despises" outgoing White House communications director Hope Hicks.

Nunberg became a prototype of sorts for a certain type of aide Mr. Trump attracted - unfailingly devoted, politically on the fringe and potentially volatile - he may prove to be an unpredictable witness for the same reasons the president's anxiety over the investigation continues to grow.

I joined the set after Sam Nunberg referenced his racially offensive statements that got him fired from the Trump campaign, dismissing their relevance because they wouldn't have lost Trump a vote. And he said White House press secretary Sarah Sanders should "shut her mouth".

In an interview with Bloomberg, Nunberg challenged Mueller's power to take any action against him should he keep his word and abstain from Friday's grand jury appearance, adding that he didn't want to pay the travel expenses. By the end, he made it clear that he had decided he would not comply with Mueller's investigation, telling Josh Dawsey, "Let him arrest me".

Nunberg expressed concern Monday that his lawyer, Patrick Brackley, would "dump" him for giving public statements amid the Mueller probe.

"The president very well might not have done anything", Mr. Nunberg said on Tuesday about the possibility of Russian collusion. I would guess that Nunberg has a lot of information of value to Mueller, especially in his email communications. "It didn't matter if Nunberg wasn't making any sense, that he contradicted himself, or perhaps intoxicated, because the media saw this as an opportunity to attack the president and they seized on it just like they always do".

It was a reversal from his tone throughout the day, when he lashed out at Trump and his campaign and threatened to defy Mueller in a series of interviews.

Bannon frustrated lawmakers on the House Intelligence Committee earlier this year when he repeatedly refused to answer questions about his time on the Trump transition team or in the White House upon the direction of the White House counsel's office.
