Donald Trump took time to send out a tweet poking fun at the #Academy Awards receiving their lowest TV rating in the show's history.

Trump's Oscars tweet came as he was offering his opinion on a number of topics including the just-announced Korean talks, DACA and his view on whether the White House was in 'chaos'.

Considering the war of words that Trump had with some actors in the run-up to the 2017 Oscars, it is hard to accept Trump's claim that his recent observation is a joke.

This year's Oscars averaged 26.5 million viewers (live+same day), down 19% from last year's 32.9 million, a nine-year low.

"OSCAR RATINGS", a tweet added.

The ratings were so awful, in fact, that they may be the worst in modern television history, as they took a 17 percent plunge year-on-year.

And the show, for the most part, stayed away from the industry's concerns over the Trump administration (a contrast from a politics-heavy Golden Globes and Emmys), though it did emphasise the #MeToo and Time's Up movements. Accepting the award for "Coco" were its filmmakers, two of whom are gay, which shows evidence of Hollywood working to create more spaces for LGBTQ filmmakers.

The ABC telecast of 90th Academy Awards for American audiences attracted the fewest viewers from the time such records have been maintained, according to data released by Nielsen.

The declines in the Oscars are probably exacerbated by the voting members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences who have tended to celebrate smaller movies and resisted nominating blockbusters.

Brian S. Brown, president of the socially conservative National Organization for Marriage, called the Oscars a "bizarre presentation" that made "people who buy movie tickets and finance the lavish lifestyles of the left's rich and pampered" feel marginalized.

The most watched Oscars in history were in 1998.

The war epic "Dunkirk", directed by Christopher Nolan, gathered Oscars for sound mixing, sound editing and film editing. It's the fourth consecutive year that viewership has declined.

"You know what, I can't believe I got this".

'I have an announcement to make, ' Jimmy said to the starstruck audience. What kind of awards ceremony would you like to see?
