Black Panther is hence the hugest third-weekend aggregate for a movie that didn't have any weekend hike. It's the third fastest film to reach the $500 million plateau.

The Twentieth Century Fox thriller "Red Sparrow" flew low at the domestic box office over the weekend, collecting an estimated $17 million and becoming the third lackluster opening in a row for Jennifer Lawrence. The second most popular film of 2018 is "Fifty Shades Freed" has total domestic ticket sales of $93 million, followed by "Peter Rabbit" at $76 million, and "Insidious: The Last Key" at $67 million. Black Panther also managed to add 64 theaters this weekend, to capitalize on the massive buzz swirling around the movie, bringing its theater count to 4,084, pulling in an impressive $16,088 per-screen average. This weekend it made an estimated $56.2 million, pushing its haul to $396.6 million.

Finally, this year's group of Oscar nominees took this weekend to score some last-minute box office scratch in anticipation of tonight's ceremony. The film cost roughly $69 million (including Lawrence's estimated $15-20 million salary) to make and now has a 51 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The box office run and fan love for this film have exceeded all industry expectations and a domestic final in the $630-640M range is possible putting it at number five all-time. "Death Wish", a remake of the 1974 revenge thriller starring Bruce Willis, opened to approximately $13 million and placed third. There was talk it would be held again after the recent Parkland school shooting, but with things as they are, will there ever be a good time to release a film like this?

The animated-comedy "Peter Rabbit" bounced to fifth-place overall, the film brought-in $10M across 3,607 locations, raising the film's four-week total to just over $84M after four weeks.

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and The Greatest Showman both remain in the top ten during their eleventh weeks of release. Jumanji is approaching $400 million domestically while Showman is closing in on $165 million domestically.

The least-seen were "Phantom Thread" (Focus), which collected about $20 million, and "Call Me by Your Name" (Sony Pictures Classics), which put together roughly $17 million.
