Logan Paul loses ad privileges on YouTube over Tasering of dead rat

YouTube star Logan Paul is under scrutiny yet again for a video posted to his channel this week showing him using a stun gun on dead rats YouTube suspends Logan Paul's ad revenue, blames 'recent pattern of behavior'

YouTube is hitting controversial creator Logan Paul where it hurts, by putting a dent in his estimated $40,000-$700,000 a month of ad revenue.

YouTube has made the call to suspend advertising across Logan Paul's channels, temporarily cutting off a revenue stream worth millions of dollars, after declaring that his "recent pattern of behaviour" makes him "unsuitable" for brands.

Up until this year, Paul was one of YouTube's favorite stars, with more than 10 million subscribers.

"After careful consideration, we have made a decision to temporarily suspend ads on Logan Paul's YouTube channels", the company said in a statement to The Verge. YouTube has spent most of 2017 and all of 2018, at this point, attempting to redress the behavior of figures like Pewdiepie, the site's biggest star before coming under fire for anti-Semitic and racist statements on his channels, among other scandals.

The video has 14 million views.

Since returning to YouTube, Paul has uploaded several disturbing videos including one where he tasered a dead rat. But a few, like the "suicide forest" video, stepped over the line for YouTube. Earlier in that same vlog, Paul takes a fish out of a pond to give it CPR as a joke. Recent vlogs have shown this, as on February 4, Paul posted a "Castaway" spoof video where he is sporting a beard and saying that he was not disgraced. After receiving criticism, Paul removed the video, but not after it trended worldwide and appeared on YouTube's front page. In those guidelines, YouTube cautions that creators who try to do this "may lose access to monetisation features" altogether.

It's not just that Paul is attempting to monetize these unsavory posts, but that his actions are drawing scrutiny of YouTube's entire creator community.

YouTube's CEO recently promised to enforce the website's policies in a more effective manner with the help of 10,000 curators and advanced video detection technology. Logan Paul's repeated stunts could potentially start another "Adpocalypse" in which advertisers drop support for popular YouTubers due to fear of being associated with inappropriate content. "No matter how much hate or comments from random strangers I've never even seen or heard of in my life - "Logan, you're trash, you're garbage, rot in hell, die, hang yourself" - it's noise to me".
