Kion Brown, who was at Old Trafford with his father and fellow diehard United fan Everton on the day of his ninth birthday last week, reflected how it resonates even with youngsters, even though little footage remains of the "Babes".

Former manager Sir Alex Ferguson, club director Michael Edelson and executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward all delivered readings, before a minute's silence was held at 1504 GMT - the time of the crash.

"I missed out on those players but I have spoken to people who did and they talk about Duncan Edwards", said Valentine, who sells a scarf with the words "They shall never die" with the images of the eight who perished. "It is a very large part of Manchester United history but it's not all Manchester United", said Gregg, who helped pull survivors from the wreckage.

"It was when I was about seven or eight", the 20-year-old striker told United Review.

On Saturday, fans attending United's clash with Huddersfield were presented with free commemorative memorabilia that included a book and a pin. "I'm just very glad that Henry Gregg. was counted good enough to play for what I consider to be one of the greatest clubs in the world".

The SNOW that fell over Old Trafford at four minutes past three yesterday afternoon was a fitting backdrop as they remembered the teammates they lost 60 years earlier.

"He kept the flag flying as he asked him too and really once he got back to Manchester, Jimmy realised how hard that would be because obviously there were so many people not only passed away but some of the players careers were completely devastated".

Manager Matt Busby's side were English champions and had reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup, and had defied the English FA to enter the European Cup, a newly created tournament between teams on the continent. "The passion, determination and courage shown by the club to carry on in those disgusting moments have left an indelible mark forever".

British Prime Minister Theresa May paid tribute to those killed and injured at Munich during a speech elsewhere in Manchester on Tuesday.

"Sixty years ago today the Munich air disaster claimed the lives of 23 people, with many more suffering life-changing injuries. The crew, journalists and, of course, the talented footballers who died that day will never be forgotten".
