Southwest plane slides to edge of taxiway in Baltimore airport, FAA investigating

Southwest flight skids off taxiway in Maryland Southwest Flight Slides On Taxiway At BWI
| 08 February, 2018, 01:07

No injuries were reported, according to the airport and the airline.

A Southwest Airlines jet slid on a taxiway while preparing to take off from Baltimore-Washington International (BWI) Airport on Wednesday, but no injuries were reported, officials said.

The flight was set to go to Montego Bay, Jamaica, and as it was heading out for departure just after 10 a.m., the aircraft slid and stopped near the edge of the taxiway.

The Boeing 737 jet skidded but remained on the pavement, according to the Federal Aviation Administration and airport officials. A passenger on the plane also claimed that the pilot attributed the incident to an "icy spot" on the taxiway, though she wasn't convinced that was accurate.

The 143 passengers and six crew members aboard Flight 906 out of BWI on Wednesday morning safely climbed down stairs and were bussed to the airport terminal following the incident, Southwest officials said. The flight safety body said it would investigate the incident.

"We were taxiing on the runway not too fast".

The Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport announced via Twitter that Southwest Airlines flights "continue to operate".

The passengers were forced to leave their personal belongings as they exited the aircraft and were transported back to the terminal, where they waited to board another plane, Edmonds said. The skidding wasn't suspected to be a pavement issue, however, since ice-free and temperatures outside were above freezing.
