Rescue workers said at least nine people had suffered breathing problems from chemicals dropped from the air.

The Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS), a charity which supports hospitals in Syria, said its doctors in Idlib reported 11 patients "with symptoms indicative to usage of chlorine", SAMS advocacy manager Mohamad Katoub said on his Twitter page.

In Idlib, another one of the remaning opposition-held areas under relentless bombardment, at least three more civilians were killed by airstrikes, according to sources from the White Helmets.

Residents across several Syrian battlefronts have reported escalating bombardment and have accused Syrian troops of deploying toxic chemicals against rebel-held zones.

Air raids intensified on rebel-held towns and cities in northwest Syria's Idlib province on Sunday night, a day after rebels shot down a Russian warplane and killed its pilot.

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, helped by Iranian-backed militias and the Russian air force, is pursuing military campaigns against insurgents in the last major pockets of territory held by his opponents in western Syria. The use of chemical weapons by all parties in Syria must unequivocally stop.

The UN Security Council (UNSC) has rejected the U.S. statement condemning the use of Chlorine gas in Syria in which more than 20 civilians were injured including children.

This week's strikes, which began on Monday, hit at least 10 areas in Eastern Ghouta, including Haza, Harasata, Douma, Hammouriyeh and Beit Sawa.

The government has dismissed the reports as "lies",.

The measure would "enable the delivery of humanitarian aid and services, evacuation of the critically sick and wounded, and alleviation of people's suffering, to the extent possible, wherever they are", the United Nations said.

"While "media wailing" on Idlib has risen, there has been no serious condemnation of the continued Turkish aggression in Afrin and other Syrian areas", the Syrian opposition group added.
