Visual Core was a unusual little surprise from Google when it revealed it back in October.

Opting into this feature is now automatic, and we will find out whether this is reversible after the update, however Google promised that the feature can be reversed during their press release.

HDR+ technology has always been available when you take photos from Pixel's native camera app.

Essentially, with the Pixel Visual Core inside applications such as the ones listed above, you'll get the same HDR+ photography you get from the Google Camera app. But the Pixel features don't stop there, as owners are also getting winter-themed AR stickers.

Google Pixel Visual Core update for Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL is now available.

Google says that Pixel Visual Core will receive its timely wake-up call in the coming days, showing up inside of the February monthly update. The Pixel 2 series of smartphones come equipped with Pixel Visual Core which is a custom image processor.

Like basically every other mobile chip out there, Pixel Core features some ARM design, with the Cortex-A53 chip that you can see in the top-left corner on the image above.

It's become clear that Google worked with Intel on Pixel Core, but it's the first mobile silicon that Google has essentially designed itself. Although HDR+ has previously been enabled on the Pixel 2s using the CPU, the new approach offloads the processing to the Visual Core. We wanted to make sure we improved on all aspects - not only image quality, but performance and power. Their strength is in software and they made a decision to use their HDR + technology first employed in the Nexus 6P that has enabled their phones to take stunning photos. For February, there is a sizable list of changes and minor fixes mostly for Google's flagship Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL.

What's inside Google Pixel Core?

Well, developers of other apps too can take advantage of the Pixel Visual Core so that their users can take much better photos from the in-app camera. These include less power usage, sharper zoomed shots and Zero Shutter Lag.
