Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has shut down talk of taking the Italy job for a second time in charge.

"I know this has never happened in the past, so why should I hope for something different?"

During an interview with Sky Sport, FIGC vice-commissioner Alessandro Costacurta discussed his role, as well as the various coaches who could be appointed the new coach of the Italian national team.

Conte thinks that Chelsea's owners and the club's fans need to be patient as the side look likely to miss out on silverware this season.

The days since this loss have unsurprisingly seen reports begin to mount that Conte will soon be out of a job, with the former Juventus boss' protestations that he has 18 months left on his contract with the club doing little to dampen persistent rumours that he will depart Stamford Bridge come the end of the season.

"I'd like to have a statement to support against this speculation", said the 48-year-old Italian.

And Spanish website Don Balon say Enrique is seeking guarantees from the west London club, and wants them to prove they are capable of signing big players by landing Dortmund star Reus.

"We have the time to make the best decision", Conte added.

Conte had signed a new two-year contract with Chelsea only in July last year, but looking at how things stand now, it seems that his days at the Bridge are numbered and a return to Italy could be very much on the cards in the summer.

Chelsea trail league leaders Manchester City by 21 points and have provided a meek defence of their Premier League crown this term.

"I'm giving all of myself, me and my staff and also my players, for this club", he said. "Why not? My desire is to continue to work with this club".

"From the start of the season if you remember there were a lot of speculations to be sacked".

"For sure it would be very hard". In the summer, we welcomed the arrivals of Willy Caballero, Antonio Rudiger, Alvaro Morata, Davide Zappacosta, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Danny Drinkwater.
